The Cricket world cup started in 1975. The first One-day International (ODI) cricket world cup winner was West Indies and the runner-up was Australia. It was hosted by England. These matches were of 60 overs per side. However, the number of overs was reduced to 50 per side from 1987.

India won the ODI cricket world cup in 1983 and 2011.

In the 1983 world cup, the captain from the Indian side was Kapil Dev. The final match of this world cup was played between India and West Indies. West Indies won the toss and decided to field first. India scored 183 runs, However, West Indies could not chase the target and scored only 140 runs and finally, India won the match by 43 runs. Mohinder Amarnath was declared man of the match. India won the second ODI world cup title in 2011 under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. The final match was played against Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first and made 274/6. However, India won by 6 wickets (with 10 balls remaining). MS Dhoni was declared the Man of the Match for his maiden 91 runs in 79 balls.
